Director’s note Dear Reader,
It is my sincere pleasure to deliver this year’s first issue of Shimadzu Journal. As part of its core
mission, Shimadzu has been actively promoting joint research and development with
universities, research institutes, and companies with innovative technologies.
Based on this policy, adding to existing Innovation Centers in the U.S. and China, in Europe
Shimadzu designated advanced universities and research institutes that conduct joint research
and development with Shimadzu as innovation centers, and established a headquarters at its
subsidiary, Shimadzu Europa GmbH, located in Duisburg, Germany. In addition, Shimadzu
established an Innovation Centre in another overseas subsidiary, Shimadzu (Asia Pacific) Pte
Ltd., to manage advanced joint research and development with local researchers. This
Innovation Centre started operations on November 17.
